When one reads the National Geographic one does not simply peruse an article mindlessly. Using Rettberg’s term machine vision, I believe that my interaction with Facebook has created a machine vision that is not fully true. Should it not have been CWA week I would have only engaged on Facebook 3/12 times I used the app. And one of the times I posted a photo to promote the Conference on World Affairs because I am a volunteer. Looking at my activity log, I participated in Facebook (likes, shares etc…) only 4 times. The 12 times I opened it yesterday I could only scrol through a few pages before closing the app.

But, I’ve noticed that when I do use the app I use it for a very short time. For me, Facebook is a time filler and fall back activity I engage in when I am bored. I think this data implies that although I visit Facebook regularly, its digital rhetoric is not effective at engaging me.
